SACAI AW16/17

It’s an unusually chilly morning and we’re standing outside Le Palais de Chaillot, Trocadero, Paris. Among the photographers wheeling their cases and the hoards of hopefuls awaiting their chance for a spot in standing, we almost forget that behind this incredible venue is the Eiffel Tower herself. The paving ripples with a film of rain that has just ceased and we make our way towards the doors. SACAI awaits us.

We make our way down the vast stone staircase, and are welcomed into the world of Sacai AW2016/17. The space is flooded with red neon bulbs. Silhouettes of eager buyers, stylists and spectators begin to fill the criss-cross of walkways, benches and pillars. It is at this point that we notice that we have no idea where the models will begin! Of course, the photographers begin to confer, looking most perplexed as they try to decipher the walkway maze before them.

The red drops, the lights come up and the models begin their parade, though of course beginning at the opposite end to where we had imagined! This season presents a myriad of styles, thrown together effortlessly. Military styling, biker bombers, sheepskin, belting (not restricted to waists but trouser-legs and cuffs included!) combine to create a collection fit for a city-warrior-woman. Oversized jackets with delicate embroidery, juxtaposition of fabrics and textures, this season encourages us to be bold, experiment, and conquer.
