In the autumn rain, FLOW Paris beckons with bass and the sound of glasses. Nicolas Theil is unveiling his new collection, inspired by space and the stars. Paris It Boy, Harvey Ambomo, and DJ twins Régis and Brice Abby of Doppelganger control the music and the party boat bobs as each passing vessel ripples across the Seine.
As a Duperré alumni, and previous studio assistant, prototype developer and leather goods stylist (among other roles) at Jean Paul Gaultier, Nicolas Theil is one of those under-thirties that we not only envy but adore. Describing himself as a creative, conceptual spirit with a technical background, Theil uses unusual shapes combined with innovative techniques to create his collections.
He prepares his own moulds for jewellery, bags and their clasps using a 3D printer, and prefers to use offcuts and textiles such as vegetable leather skins, python and crocodile. His Parisian workshop-come-laboratory fuses the natural and the technological.
We’ve fallen in love with Nicolas’ creations and are delighted to announce that a selection pieces from his Fall/Winter accessories collection will be available shortly on The Selectist shop! Some of the pieces seen in the video will be available March 2017.
Watch our interview with Nicolas to see the concept behind his most recent collection.
